The Rocks and Minerals of Occoneechee Mountain -


Enlarged area of pyrophyllite + andalusite rock. Andalusite is the blue mineral.

Andalusite (Al2SiO5) is an aluminum silicate mineral. The presence of andalusite with pyrophyllite make the Occoneechee Mountain deposit unique and of particular economic value.

The name of the mineral has its origin from Andalusia, a provence of Spain.
