10008: Portion of detailed geologic map of the Creedmoor quadrangle (Clark et al., 2002).  Virtual Field Trip stop 10008 is located in the CZdi unit of the Beaverdam diorite-gabbro complex in the Carolina terrane.

Location is a pod of gabbro within an area composed of dominantly diorite.


Unit description: CZdi - Beaverdam diorite: Grayish-white, fine- to coarse-grained, unfoliated to well foliated, mesocratic hornblende metagranodiorite to metadiorite.

CZgb - Beaverdam gabbro and metapyroxenite: Black and white to greenish black, fine- to medium-grained, unfoliated to well-foliated, melanocratic to hypermelanocratic metagabbro to metapyroxenite.
